Even before he became the Flipkart CEO in January 2017, Kalyan was referred to as the “turnaround man” at the company for spearheading products, advertising, and commerce functions successfully as the ‘Head of Category Design’ during Flipkart’s flagship five-day festive sale event Big Billion Days (BBD). The current chief executive officer of Flipkart, Kalyan began his career at Procter & Gamble (consumer products company) as part of the supply chain finance back in 2003. From there, he moved on to become the country finance director at eBay South East Asia (Hong Kong), and then the director of financial planning and analysis at eBay Asia Pacific. In 2014, he joined at the post of managing director in one of the leading investment firms Tiger Global (which invested more than 1 billion USD in Flipkart in 2015).
