Before he became the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Randall was already pursuing a flourishing career path. He served as the Chief Financial Officer and later Chief Operating Officer at SBC. In his stint from 2001 to 2004, he helped SBC to lower its net debt from 30 billion USD to nearly zero. During that same period, between 2003 and 2004, he assumed the position of Chairman at Cingular Wireless. In 2005, when AT&T acquired SBC, he continued to operate as the COO heading company’s wireless and wireline operations. Other than that, he has worked at some other reputed companies too. However, his first job began at Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1982.
