BookMyShow CEO Ashish (age 43) wants to go sailing all around the globe when he turns 50. A follower of Bob Dylan music and Vedanat Philosophy, Ashish sails his German-built private yacht Peace and Plenty often and takes part in sailing competitions with his team. He is an early riser, and swimming and golf are his other favorite activities.
The idea of starting BookMyShow struck him when he was vacationing in South Africa with two of his old classmates in 1999. He heard a radio commercial about the availability of rugby match tickets online. Immediately, he thought about how ticket buying experience in India was painful and that it can be fixed through online ticketing solution. He went on to secure 500,000 USD funding from Chase Capital Partners and with his two university friends -Rajesh Balpande and Parikshit Dar – started BookMyShow. In his journey, investors like Accel Partners, SAIF Partners and Stripes Group lent him a hand.
